Reentry Support

As many of the incarcerated queer and trans people we work with are estranged from their families, they often have little support when released. We hope to connect our members with existing resources—mutual-aid projects especially—as well as offer our own small forms of support to ease the transition. small ways of support that can range from public transportation passes, resource booklets, or other things to make the transition an easier one.

Mutual Aid

Awesome mutual-aid projects are springing up all around California, but they’re often hard to locate. We’re connecting our members with them whenever possible, though will also put people in touch with more traditional nonprofit structures of support when called for. Services must always be welcoming to queer and trans people!

Public Transportation Passes

In a bid to make it easier for folks to reach their parole and medical appointments, we’re coordinating providing as many monthly transit passes as we can—with a focus on those in Southern California. We’d also like to provide post-release transportation to our members anywhere in the state.

Resource Info

We want to offer information packets on several different topics for people who come out. Many organizations have information packets ready for those coming out of prison, which we want to collect into one place so that our newly released members do not have to do that search. Our aim is for these resources to be queer/trans-specific when possible.

Future Goals

We want to support our inside members in more tangible ways, but need more help (and money) to reach those goals. We’d love to be able to help folks gain supportive housing, cover their grocery expenses for a few months, or assist them in finding work or securing financial assistance.
