Write a birthday card from home

to queer and trans people currently incarcerated in California.

Our birthday-card mailing program has been updated to accommodate our collective needs during COVID-19.

Given the current difficulty of holding in-person letter-writing events, we’ve made this program entirely available from home. All birthday cards submitted through our online system will be printed and mailed by hand in a timely manner so that we can help our LGBTQ family feel celebrated on their birthday.

Power Blossoms covers all costs related to printing and postage. If you would like to help support this program or our other projects, you can find out how to do so via our donate page.

HOW TO WRITE A BIRTHDAY CARD:

  1. SCAN THE TABLE ABOVE to see all the people still in need of a card this month

**Note: Use “Filter” and “Sort” to search by category

  2. CLICK ON ANY CARD to read more about that person (and to access their contact link)

  3. FOLLOW THE LINK AND FILL OUT THE FORM to write your letter and celebrate together!

**Note: Handwritten cards and artwork are encouraged (but not required)! Feel welcome to upload a scan or photo of your birthday greeting and we will make sure it gets delivered.

  4. MULTIPLE SUBMISSIONS ARE GREAT!

You may write cards to several different people if you have the capacity to do so; however, please aim for quality over quantity. Cards should be unique to each celebrant!

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT:

  1. We will print, package, and mail your message to its intended birthday recipient. (Messages will be sent inside themed greeting cards!)

  2. If you feel compelled to do more after writing, get involved in Power Blossoms or donate to help cover the cost of this and other programs we run. If you’d like to take on the commitment of writing to someone inside on a regular basis, consider becoming a penpal!
